REVIEW: Baby Driver

Baby Driver is great. It’s a sharp crime movie that is mostly a showcase for director Edgar Wright’s editing style. The performances are very good, and the script is very good, but the editing and the way it works together with the music is the star.

There’s nothing special about the plot really, but in today’s movie landscape a straight crime genre feels very refreshing. The conceit itself, of a kid who constantly listens to music and is a spectacular driver, wouldn’t make for a particularly unique movie on its own. It’s how that conceit informs and empowers the editing that makes the difference.

That’s really all there is to it; this is a very good movie with great editing that elevates the entire experience. It has such a good flow and the style is such a treat that walking out of the theater I was ready to go watch it again.
